Shishi is a lion, and it is a guardian deity of Kyoto andOkinawa who wards off monsters and disasters. you can see Shisa everywhere, such as private homes, public facilities, and historical and cultural assets.
There are one thing and two things that are placed in the direction from which disasters invade with the thing you want to protect on your back.
The pair of Shisa are a male and female pair, the one with the mouth open is the male and the one with the mouth closed is the female. There are various theories, but it is said that it expresses the Buddhist ``aun'', which starts with a wide-open mouth ``a'' and ends with a completely closed mouth ``n''.
Shisa is now a symbol of tourism in Okinawa Kyoto that not only wards off evil, but also brings happiness.
