Kawara history NIHONSYOKI

There are various theories about the history of tiles.

900-800 B.C.), it seems that it was used as a roof tile.
According to the Nihon Shoki, tile-making technicians came to Japan during the Asuka period along with monks and temple carpenters.
The purpose was to build Soga no Umako's 'Hokoji Temple' (Hokoji Temple seems to mean 'a temple where Buddhism flourishes').
Soga no Umako defeated his rival, Mononobe no Moriya, who divided power, in the Chomi Rebellion, and seized religious and political power.
Hokoji Temple seems to have been built for the purpose of showing off its "power".
In addition, it is said to be the first Buddhist temple in Japan with a full-fledged garan (building as a temple).
The roof tiles of this Hokoji Temple have survived as the roof of the current Gangoji Temple (Nara) following the relocation of the capital to Heijo.
This is said to be the "oldest tile in Japan".
